Girls in Motion Registration is Now Open

Girls in Motion is a new program designed specifically to attract girls and female-identifying youth aged 9-15 to cycling as a means of building social connections, gaining confidence, and building competence to ride and maintain one’s own bike.

With qualified trainers, we aspire to a program that is safe, respectful, fun, inclusive, and encouraging. Girls will leave with fundamental bike skills and maintenance (drawn from the Sprockids curriculum), and the opportunity to hear from women who love riding bikes for a variety of reasons.

With assistance from a grant from Canadian Parks & Recreation Association and generous donations from St. John's Enduro Series, College of the North Atlantic, and Piatto Pizzeria & Enoteca, we are able to offer this pilot run free of charge for participants.

Dates /Times: Sunday May 15, 22, and 29 at 10AM-12PM
Location: College of the North Atlantic, 1 Prince Philip Drive (meet in parking lot)
Final event to be held at Piatto on Duckworth St. June 5, 12-2PM

We plan to go ahead even if it is raining slightly, so girls need to be dressed appropriately for the weather. We have access to washroom facilities, and all COVID protocols will be followed, including socially distancing and masking when inside the building. If the weather is terrible (i.e., snowstorm or heavy winds), we will contact you in the morning with information about an alternative location or cancellation.

First come, first served. Limit of 20 participants in this offering. Please only register if you/your child expect to be able to attend all 4 of the sessions. If you do not have a bicycle, please reach out and we will see what we can do.

Participants must be able to stay upright on their bike on their own and this is not a learn to bike program. We will be supporting them with things like balance, braking, safety, cornering, and other basic skills.
